Insert a symbol into annotation text

You can insert a symbol or a derived value into annotation text using the Select Symbols and Values dialog box, or by typing a three-character property text code directly in the dialog box where you specify the annotation content. Annotations that support this capability include callouts, balloons, feature control frames, weld symbols, and surface texture symbols, as well as text boxes and dimension prefixes.

  1. Start the annotation command.

For example, choose PMI tab→Annotation group→Callout.

  2. Click in the annotation content box to identify where you want to insert the symbol.

For the callout example, click in the Callout Text or Callout Text 2 box.

  3. Do one of the following:

    • On the command bar or in the dialog box, click the Symbols and Values button , and then in the Select Symbols and Values dialog box, do the following:

      1. In the Symbols and Values list, expand the categories until you find what you are looking for.

      2. Double-click the symbol or value to add it to the Text box.

This also displays the selected symbol or the <unresolved property text value> in the Preview box.

      3. Click OK to transfer the information to the current cursor position in the annotation or the referencing dialog box.

    • Type the three-character property text codes for the symbols you want to insert.

      Tip:

A property text code always begins with the percent (%) character and is followed by two letters. As you type, the code is converted to the corresponding symbol, which you can see in the Preview pane of the dialog box and in the selected annotation itself.

Example: To insert a tolerance zone symbol indicating Envelope Requirement, type %ER.
