Monitoring Disk Space

During the migration process, all data that is migrated, including any intermediate files, are saved to disk in different locations and formats. Therefore, you should monitor the disk space on both the Solid Edge client machine and the I-DEAS server. The following describes the different locations you should check.

IDEAS Server Scratch Folder

This folder stores the intermediate file (.DXF) when extracting I-DEAS drawings from TDM. These files are removed during migration and should not cause a problem for disk space.

Solid Edge Client Folder

This folder stores the Solid Edge documents created during migration when the Add to Library option is disabled. Depending on the amount of data being migrated the disk space requirements will vary.

If you select the Add to Library option, the Solid Edge documents are copied to a managed workspace.  Therefore, you should monitor this folder and remove the files once you verify that the Add to Library operation was successful.

Log File Location

This folder that stores the log file created for each migration process.

User\Scratch or Team\Scratch

These folders, located on the I-DEAS server, are created when you create your Team database. These folder stores temporary files, such as run-time files, user scratch files, and team scratch files, created by I-DEAS during the application process. Most of these temporary files are deleted automatically when you exit I-DEAS. Others, such as the team (project) scratch files, must be removed periodically as a part of your I-DEAS maintenance, or in the event of an abnormal termination of the I-DEAS session. For more information, refer to General I-DEAS Administration in I-DEAS Help Library.
