Solid Edge recognizes the formats of other applications and allows you to import and insert documents created in those applications.
You can use the Open command to translate and open documents created in the following applications:
AutoCAD Drawing Interchange Format (.DXF)
AutoCAD Binary Drawing File Format (.DWG)
MicroStation design files (.DGN)
Parasolid File Format (.X_T)
Once you import the document, you can make changes to the document using the productive Solid Edge drawing features and then save the document for future use.
You can use the Paste Special command and the Object command on the Insert menu to insert documents that support Microsoft OLE into an active Solid Edge document. In addition, you can drag and drop documents from other applications into an active Solid Edge document.
You can insert the following types of documents:
Solid Edge Part (.PAR), Assembly (.ASM), Sheet Metal (.PSM), and Draft (.DFT)
Picture/Enhanced Metafile (.GDI)
Text: ASCII, Original Equipment Manufacturer (.OEM), Rich Text Format (.RTF), and Unicode
Bitmap (.BMP)
AutoCAD (.DXF), (.DWG)
MicroStation (.DGN)
Parasolid File Format (.X_T)
The Paste Special command allows you to insert the contents of the Clipboard into a Solid Edge document in a specific format. You can also specify if you want to link the information rather than embed it.
The Object command on the Insert menu allows you to link or embed objects created in another application into a Solid Edge document.
Drag and drop allows you to insert a document as a symbol into the Draft environment. With drag and drop, you simply select the document you want to insert, hold the left mouse button, drag the document to the location in the Solid Edge document, and release the mouse button. Solid Edge has drag and drop options that allow you to choose link, embed, share embed or insert graphics.
