Various options are available for controlling element selection in synchronous documents when using the Select command.
Determines which elements are located first in the graphics window. Smart priority sets the locate priority automatically based on the active document.
Locates element types such as faces and features first, then other element types, such as parts and features.
Locates parts first, then other element types, such as individual faces and features.
Note:
In an assembly, both the Smart Priority and Faces options will not locate faces on a part that is inactive. To locate faces on a part in an assembly, the part must be activated first using the Activate command on the shortcut menu.
Sets the selection mode for adding or removing selected elements. Only the Normal mode is available when no elements are selected. You can set the other modes after you select the first element.
Adds elements or removes elements from a select set. In this mode, when an element is selected, if you select a second element, the first element is discarded and the second element is selected.
You can hold the Shift or Ctrl keys to add more elements to or remove elements from the selection set. When you hold the Shift or Ctrl keys and select a second element, the selection mode is automatically changed to the Add/Remove mode.
You can hold the Shift or Ctrl keys to remove already selected elements from the selection set.
You can also drag a fence to select multiple elements.
Adds unselected elements to the current selection set or removes selected elements from the current selection set.
Sets the selection mode to only add elements to a selection set.
Sets the selection mode to only remove elements from the current selection set.
When a face is selected, the Selection Manager menu appears.
Selects elements which are inside or overlapping the fenced area.
Controls whether elements are selectable based on the element type. When a check mark is displayed adjacent to an element type in the list, that element type is selectable. When no check mark is displayed, that element type is not selectable. The following element types are available. Depending on the current document type, some options may be disabled.

Clears the selection set. You can also press the Esc key, or double-click in the graphics window to clear the current selection.
Displays the Select Small Parts command bar, which contains a spin box so you can dynamically select a set of parts based on their size. When the parts you want to select highlight, you can click the Accept button on the command bar to accept them. This can be useful when you want to hide all the small parts, such as fasteners, in an assembly.
Selects parts that are fully or partially visible in the active window at its current view orientation. For example, if a part is not hidden, but you are zoomed in so that it is not displayed in the active window, the part will not be selected.
In an assembly, the parts constrained to the selected part will also be selected.
Activates selected parts within an assembly.
Allows the steering wheel to be displayed and used for the manipulation of selected parts within an assembly.
