Insight is based on Microsoft SharePoint, an information sharing platform that manages both metadata, such as CAD files, and product data, such as file attributes. Insight Web Parts provide true integration between Insight and the SharePoint dashboard, allowing non-Solid Edge users to view Solid Edge documents in a SharePoint dashboard through their web browser.
Note:
Insight web components are an add-in that you must select on the Custom Setup page of the Insight Server InstallShield wizard. Without this add-in, you will not be able to display Solid Edge documents in a SharePoint dashboard. Each user that will use web components with the SharePoint dashboard should install the SharePoint Client software.
Insight Server delivers four web components that can expose Solid Edge data to non-Solid Edge users:
BOM View
Property View
Graphics View
Solid Edge Search
The BOM View displays a components list of all Solid Edge documents or an exploded BOM view of an assembly. When you select a component in the BOM View, the Property View and Graphics View automatically update to display information for the selected component.
Note:
You must have Internet Explorer 6.0 or later installed if you plan to view large assemblies. Web Parts are not supported in Internet Explorer 10 (64-bit). They are also not supported in Internet Explorer 10 (32-bit) when Enhanced Protected Mode enabled.
The Property View displays both profile and system properties for the selected BOM component. Like the BOM View, you can sort the properties in the list.
The Graphics View displays a graphical representation of the selected BOM component. The Graphics View provides commands that allow you to change your display. You can do such things as fit views, pan views, rotate views, and zoom in or out on the model.
The Solid Edge Search finds documents using defined properties or using a number of criteria, including mathematical operators and standard Boolean expressions.
To view any of the supported document types in Web Parts, choose View Properties/Graphics/BOM from the document's shortcut menu. This will cause SharePoint to navigate you to the Web Parts page using that document as the context URL for the display of the Web Parts.
