You can open SolidWorks (.SLDPRT) and *.SLDASM documents (versions 1999 and later) in Solid Edge with the Open command. On the Open File dialog box, after you select the SolidWorks document you want to open, click the Options button to display the Import Options for SolidWorks (.SLDPRT and .SLDASM) dialog box. You can use the dialog box to control how the SolidWorks document is opened in Solid Edge.
Solid Edge supports SolidWorks part files containing the .SLDPRT or .SLDASM extension, which can be either upper or lower case. It does not support SolidWorks draft files, nor does it support SolidWorks library files containing a .LFP or .SLDLFP extension. Colors from the SolidWorks file are not preserved when the file is opened in Solid Edge.
To translate multiple SolidWorks files in a single session, use the SW2SE.exe file, located in the Solid Edge Version #/Program folder. The executable requires Solid Edge be loaded on the machine where the translation occurs. The batch processor saves the translated SolidWorks files in Parasolid (.X_T) format, which you can open in Solid Edge.
The executable displays the SolidWorks to Solid Edge dialog box. You can click the Import from SolidWorks button on the dialog box to display the SolidWorks to Parasolid (.X-T) dialog box. You can use this dialog box to specify the drive, folder, and SolidWork files you want to import along with the sub-directory for the imported .X_T files.
